Woolly Mat-Rush, Snowball Grass

       

Form and Size: A tussocky, grass-like plant to around 40cm high

Distribution: White Mountains, north Qld and from central Qld to central NSW; in dry coastal areas and on inland ranges

Leaves: Flat, rigid, 1-2mm wide, stem-sheathing at the base, sheath margins white and lacerating into stringy fragments

Flowers: Separate male and female plants. Flowers white; borne on spherical heads held shorter than the leaves

Flowering Period: July to September

Cultivation/Notes: Propagate from seed or from cuttings taken from prostrate stems
A useful rockery plant for dry areas
Very attractive when in flower.
