Spectacular tree at Cape Cleveland

Archidendron grandiflorum, also known as Fairy Paint Brush or Pink Lace Flower, is an uncommon but spectacular flowering tree that can be found in vine thickets close to Townsville. This one was photographed at Cape Cleveland, growing at the base of a granite cliff which provides shade.

Dietrich’s Morning Glory considered rare locally

Dietrich’s Morning Glory Bonhamia dietrichiana (Convolvulaceae) photographed (below) at Cape Cleveland at the northern end of its range which begins near Marlborough in central Queensland. Considered a rare plant in the district, it is a vigorous climber usually in vine thickets where it will cover small canopy trees.

White Hazelwood Symplocos cochinchinensis var. gittonsii (Symplocaceae) is a splendid flowering tree, currently in full bloom in and around Paluma village.

Burra Heather in full bloom

A hardy climber Hardenbergia perbrevidens

Hardenbergia perbrevidens (Fabaceae) is a hardy and very showy climber, seen here at the Burra Range in July. It is distinguished from Hardenbergia violaceae in having a trifoliate leaf and small yellow markings in the centre of the flower.

Our 45th anniversary!

On 25th June 2015 our branch celebrated its 45th anniversary. A big thank-you to Townsville City Council for their reception held at Anderson Gardens exactly 45 years to the day!
